Agentic Commerce
A commerce model where AI agents discover, compare, prepare carts, and connect purchases based on user intent
What Is Agentic Commerce?
Agentic commerce is a commerce model where AI agents understand a user's buying intent, discover products, compare options, build carts, and connect purchases within the user's approved boundaries.
In traditional ecommerce, users search, open multiple sites, compare details, and complete checkout themselves. In agentic commerce, the user can state a goal such as "find a lightweight suitcase for my trip," and the AI agent prepares the shopping flow.
What Technologies Are Involved?
Agentic commerce requires several standards and systems to work together.
- AI agents understand the user's goal and constraints.
- UCP and ACP let agents and merchant systems exchange commerce information.
- AP2 preserves approval and transaction evidence when agents initiate payments.
- Product data gives the agent structured facts such as price, inventory, variants, shipping, returns, and reviews.
Why Does It Matter?
As agentic commerce grows, the starting point of the purchase journey shifts from the search result page to the AI conversation. Brands need product information and trust signals that an AI agent can select, compare, and route toward checkout.
The new competition is not only ranking. It is being selected into the AI purchase shortlist.
